The recent strategy change to focus on keeping civilians safe instead of trying to kill terrorists can only cause renewed efforts in rebuilding once the current security environment stabilizes. The recent US strategy shift has made it more important that procurement and logistics for rebuilding is not involved with local organizations who have ties to blacklisted countries or blacklisted subcontractors as many of the WFG-A’s local competitors currently do.
So what’s important for procurement and logistics in Afghanistan going forward, is not only the sourcing and supply of goods and services, but also that procurement occur through local networks free from the culturally ingrained corruption that continues to plague both the war on drugs and the rebuilding process.
